Pros vs. Prospects Tornado Charity Classic

FRISCO, Texas – On Wednesday, March 23rd at 7:30pm at the Dr Pepper StarCenter in Frisco, the Texas Tornado hosted the inaugural Pros vs. Prospects Tornado Charity Classic, matching the defending Junior A National Champion Texas Tornado in a game against a team of current and former NHL Stars including Dallas Stars' players Bill Guerin, Marty Turco, Brenden Morrow, Jason Arnott, Sergei Zubov, Aaron Downey, Stu Barnes, and Phillipe Boucher. Former Dallas Stars players Mike Keane, Joe Nieuwendyk, Guy Carbonneau, Craig Ludwig, Richard Matvichuk, and Lyle Odelien also played in the game.

The night was electric. From the introductions of the players with numerous standing ovations, to the back-and-forth action, to the late Pros surge to win the game, the Pros vs. Prospects Tornado Charity Classic will go down in history as one of the best nights for the Texas Tornado organization. A sold-out, standing room only crowd of 4,200 fans cheered on the Tornado as they climbed back from a two-goal deficit to tie the score at 2-2 at the end of the 2nd period. The Pros struck first with goals from #21 Guy Carbonneau and #29 Grant Marshall, however the goaltending of #30 Ben Bishop kept the Tornado in the game the first half. The Tornado got on the board with a rebound goal from #17 Jordan Mowbray just :23 seconds into the 2nd to make it 2-1. #11 Ryan Fuller scored to make it 2-2 and the crowd, who had been for the Pros team, was now on the side of the Tornado. The Pros scored first in the 3rd period when Zubov scored on a pass from #9 Mike Modano. Zubov added his second of the game minutes later to make it 4-2, and then #25 Joe Nieuwendyk scored on a wicked snap shot from the slot to make it 5-2. #47 Aaron Downey made it 6-2 with a tip-in 2 on 1 goal. #9 Justin King was given a penalty shot after he was hauled down by #3 Craig Ludwig, but King's drive went off the stick of Pros goaltender #35 Marty Turco and wide. The Pros outshot the Tornado 38-36 on a fun night had by all.
