Hockey Night in Canada's resident former coach of the year has unveiled the candidates for this year's prize.
Don Cherry announced Guy Carbonneau of the Montreal Canadiens, Mike Babcock of the Detroit Red Wings, and Bruce Boudreau of the Washington Capitals as the three finalists for the 2008 Jack Adams Award, given annually to the NHL's top head coach as judged by the NHL Broadcasters' Association, during Coach's Corner on Wednesday night.
In his second NHL season as coach, Carbonneau guided the Canadiens (47-25-10, 104 points) to their first 45-win and 100-point season in 15 years, their first division title in 17 years, and their first Eastern Conference title in 19 years.
Montreal, which did not lose more than three consecutive games all season, was also the NHL's highest-scoring club in 2007-08 with 262 goals and boasted the league's top-ranked power play (90 for 372, 24.2 per cent).
This year's winner will be announced June 12 during the 2008 NHL Awards ceremony in Toronto.
