A Team Called the Carbon-O's

Dallas resident Fred Belcastro wrote to me in June 2001, "We have recently started a team in an instructional league, with several of the players over 30, in Dallas at the Stars Center Valley Ranch. The team name: the Carbon-O’s. Our tribute to a class act."

Fred explains, "About 50% of our team first learned to skate in an adult hockey skating class that began in January of this year. While the coach was demonstrating a particular aspect, a couple of us older guys kiddingly said that if we ever formed a hockey team we should be known as the Carbon-O's since we were either over 40 or near 40. Well, as it comes to pass, we did form the team and we stuck with the name. Not all of the team are in this age bracket, but about 30% of us are."

Fred sent me the team logo, shown here, which I'm sure Carbo himself would appreciate. If you ever read this story, Guy, the members of the Carbon-O’s salute you!

Une équipe appellée les Carbon-O's

Un résident de Dallas qui s’appelle Fred Belcastro m’a écrit en juin 2001, "Nous ont récemment formé une équipe dans une ligue d’instruction, avec plusieurs des joueurs plus agés que 30 ans, au Stars Center Valley Ranch. Le nom de l’équipe: les Carbon-O’s. C’est notre hommage à un ‘class act’."

Fred explique, "Une moitie de notre équipe apprise à patiner dans une classe de patinage de hockey pour les adultes, qui a commencé en janvier de cette année. Tandis que l’entraîneur démontrait un aspect particulier, un couple de nos types plus âgés a indiqué que si nous formions jamais une équipe de hockey, nous devrions être connus par le nom les Carbon-O’s, puisque nous étions plus agés que 40 ans, ou nous approchons cet âge. Bien, comme il arrivait, nous avons formé l’équipe et nous avons retenu le nom. Pas toute l’équipe est dans cette classe d’âge, mais c’est vrai d’un tiers."
