Carbo Coming Home
By Pat Hickey for the Montréal Gazette, July 31, 2000
Guy Carbonneau will be coming home this week, and I have no doubt
that the former captain of Les Canadiens will be a formidable
addition to a revamped front-office staff that includes newcomers
Andre Savard and Martin Madden.
But despite Carbonneau's reluctance to coach, I can't help but think that it might be a good idea to get the veteran down on the ice during training camp and have him work with some of the team's centremen on faceoffs.
Carbo was one of the best in the National Hockey League on faceoffs, even after the Canadiens decided his best days were behind him, and he must have a few tips he can pass on to Saku Koivu, Mike Ribeiro et al. Faceoffs have been one of the weak spots in the Canadiens' game, and the situation hasn't improved with the defection of Shayne Corson to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
