Carbo est de retour à l'entraînement

"Assistant coach Guy Carbonneau was in full uniform yesterday and participated in a game of shinny, but the 40-year-old vowed there is no comeback in his future."

Guy Carbonneau n'a pas l'intention de réaliser un retour au jeu. Cette idée a traversé l'esprit de ceux qui ont assisté à l'entraînement détendu du Canadien, lundi, au Centre Molson, au lendemain de la belle victoire de 4-3 remportée face aux Sabres, à Buffalo.

"Il manquait un joueur chez les rouges. C'est pourquoi j'ai mis l'uniforme, a expliqué Carbo. Mais ne vous faites pas d'idée. Je n'ai pas l'intention de revenir. Je ne ferais qu'enlever la place à un jeune. Et puis mes droits appartiennent toujours aux Stars de Dallas même si j'ai signé mes papiers de retraite au cours de l'été."

Malgré ses 40 ans, l'entraîneur-adjoint du Canadien ne semblait pas perdu sur la glace. Il parvenait même à suivre le rythme du jeu.

"Je joue encore les lundis soirs, a-t-il dit. Je pense pouvoir suivre durant une pratique. Mais pas nécessairement durant un match", a-t-il prévenu.

Son équipe a quand même remporté ce match amical 5-2. Lui-même aurait terminé la rencontre avec une fiche de plus-3.

"C'est l'expérience", a-t-il noté, amusé.

Guy Carbonneau swears he is not making a comeback, even if he suited up and practised with the Montreal Canadiens on Monday. Carbonneau said he was merely filling in because there was an odd number of players available for a four-on-four scrimmage. He did not look out of place in the high-speed scrimmage.

"It was a fun day," said Carbonneau, whose team was on the off-day of a series of three games in four nights. "We wanted a good skate without going into any details."

"I signed retirement papers last summer," he said. "I think my playing rights still belong to Dallas, but I haven't looked into it."

"Coach Therrien separated the team in two and since the Red team was short of one attacker, they called up from retirement Guy Carbonneau, who put the equipment for the first time since last June! Don't worry, my dear friend; Carbo is very happy teaching the young kids and does not intend to do the same stunt numéro 66 did...BTW, Reds won the game and it was mock-up celebration time, until the real thing happens!"
