Il a rencontré Réjean Houle
Carbonneau attend de connaître le défi qu'il pourrait relever

Dès que Guy Carbonneau a annoncé sa retraite, le directeur général du Canadien, Réjean Houle lui a demandé de le rencontrer. Carbonneau on le sait, a toujours porté le tricolore dans son coeur même s'il avoue qu'il ne comprend toujours pas pourquoi il a été échangé aux Blues en août 94. Sa rencontre avec Réjean Houle était simple, on voulait connaître ses intentions et Carbonneau lui voulait savoir ce que le CH avait à lui offrir.

"A Dallas, on a quand même une bonne organisation, une bonne équipe. Y retourner serait intéressant. Faire partie du retour du Canadien en séries éliminatoires m'intéresserait aussi. Ça va dépendre de ce que le tricolore a l'intention de m'offrir," a indiqué Carbonneau.

Avant d'annoncer sa retraite, Guy Carbonneau a rencontré le DG des Stars, Bob Gainey qui lui a offert un poste de dépisteur comme l'ancien défenseur Craig Ludwig occupe avec Dallas. Une façon pour Carbonneau de demeurer dans le hockey tout en sachant qu'il pourra gravir les échelons en temps et lieu.

"J'ai parlé avec Bob Gayney à la fin de la saison. Il savait que je voulais me retirer. Il m'a fait cette offre de retourner à Dallas. J'ai pas décidé encore si c'est vraiment ce que je veux faire," a fait comprendre le principal intéressé.

Depuis son départ de Montréal, les choses ont bien changé chez le Canadien. A l'époque le tricolore participait aux séries année après année. Maintenant, l'équipe est en reconstruction ce qui est très loin de l'effrayer.

"On jouait seulement une fois ou deux par saison contre eux. C'était difficile de porter un jugement. Les joueurs n'aiment pas l'instabilité et l'argent canadien n'aide pas. Il faut essayer de changer leur attitude," a mentionné Carbo.

Cette rencontre exploratoire a permis à Guy Carbonneau d'en connaître un petit peu plus sur son ancienne organisation. Mais Réjean Houle est très clair, il ne veut pas mettre de pression supplémentaire sur les épaules de Carbonneau. C'est pourquoi il lui a demandé de prendre son temps avant de lui donner une réponse.

As soon as Guy Carbonneau announced his retirement, the general manager of the Canadiens, Réjean Houle, asked him to meet with him. One knows that Carbonneau has always carried the tricolor in his heart, even if he acknowledges the he still doesn't understand why he was traded to the Blues in August 1994. His meeting with Réjean Houle was simple: Houle wanted to know his intentions and Carbonneau wanted to know what the Canadiens had to offer to him.

"You have in Dallas a good organization, a good team," indicated Carbonneau. To return there would be interesting. To be a part of the return of the Canadiens to the Finals would interest me too. That will depend on what the Habs have in mind to offer me."

Before announcing his retirement, Guy Carbonneau met with the GM of the Stars, Bob Gainey, who offered him a scouting post similar to the one former defenseman Craig Ludwig holds with Dallas. It would be a way for Carbonneau to remain in hockey while knowing that he would be able to eventually find a higher position.

"I spoke with Bob Gainey at the end of the season," said Carbonneau. "He knew that I wanted to retire. He made this offer to me to go back to Dallas. I haven't decided yet if it is really what I want to do."

Since his departure from Montreal, things have changed drastically for the Canadiens. At the time the Habs took part in the Finals year after year. Now, the team is rebuilding and has a ways to go.

"I played only one time or two per season against them. It was difficult to make an assessment. The players do not like instability and the Canadian money does not help. It is necessary to try to change their attitude," explained Carbo.

This exploratory meeting made it possible for Guy Carbonneau to learn a little bit more about his old organization. But Réjean Houle is very clear, he does not want to put additional pressure on the shoulders of Carbonneau. This is why he asked him to take his time before giving him an answer.
