The Stars are struggling to adjust to life without Guy Carbonneau, who retired this summer.
Mike Modano might be struggling more than most.
"We lost a lot of things when Carbo left," Modano said, "including my golf partner."
Forget penalty killing, faceoff tenacity and leadership for a second. Modano longs for Carbonneau's short game.
With Carbonneau as a partner, Modano had Stars teammates Brett Hull and Grant Marshall buying him lunch regularly. Without him, Hull and Marshall won all four times during training camp in Vail, Colo. They haven't exactly let the turnaround go unnoticed.
"Marsh and I took on [Marty]
Turco and Mike in four rounds we had in Vail, and it's 4-0 for
me and Marshy," Hull said. "Turco is terrible. Mike
is looking for some other young guys to come in and help."
