Carbo may return to Dallas

Although Guy Carbonneau took himself out of the Stars' coaching race, he could still return to Dallas.
Stars general manager Doug Armstrong said Friday that he had spoken briefly by phone with Carbonneau about a soon-to-be-created front-office position. Armstrong said he planned to talk with Carbonneau again next week.
Carbonneau, an assistant coach the last two seasons in Montreal, told Montreal radio station CKAC earlier Friday that he had been in talks about the position.
Armstrong said no offer has been made.
"We're just chatting," Armstrong said. "We've had general talks and concentrated on ideas for the position. We haven't gone the distance."
Part of the position would include serving as a liaison between management and the players, but the position is still evolving, Armstrong said.
Carbonneau played his final five seasons with the Stars from 1995 to 2000. His leadership and defensive play were keys in the 1999 Stanley Cup win. He declined to interview during the Stars' coaching search, in part because he was uncomfortable about coaching former teammates so soon after retirement.
